Typewriters
So the venerable typewriter is officially no more. The last place that made them (somewhere in Europe) has shuttered their doors. I have fond memories of playing with my parents’ manual and electric typewriters as a child. This what oriented me to things with keyboards in the first place.
That aside, I won’t miss typewriters at all. They were loud, messy and inconvenient. I fully...

Crush Videos
I had the misfortune to watch a crush video of a woman crushing a puppy to death with stilletos. Words fail me to describe how horrific it was. How can anyone be so depraved?

Internet Leads to Intolerance
Does having modern technology, which can be customized just about any way we want, and delivers us content at the click of a mouse or touch of a screen, and where you can block unwanted content, ads and even people, cause us to be more demanding, self-entitled and intolerant than in an era where there were fewer choices and more annoyances that we had to deal with? (Wow! Run-on sentence).

Boycott Chinese Goods?
The problem is, the only way to really get rid of China as a threat would be to boycott all their products, which isn’t easily done. Almost everything we buy is now made in China. We would actually have to be willing to go back, at least temporarily, to a lower standard of living until we could return manufacturing jobs to the USA. After that, we would have to buy only products made in the...

USA and China
Our biggest mistake ever was allowing USA corporations to export manufacturing jobs to China. Our nation sold its pride for a bowl of potage. Now, we reap what we’ve sown. China fattens while we waste away.

You Have Good Manners 49% of the Time
Your manners are generally pretty good. You know how to behave, but you don’t always follow the rules.
A little extra effort on your part, and you could be the next Emily Post!
New Passport Rules
I can’t fathom why the State Department is seeking to adopt more stringent rules for passport applicants. They will expect them to remember every address they’ve lived at all their lives and every job they’ve had.
Who the hell remembers all that shit? I know I don’t.

Sexting and the Rush to Criminalize Sexual... →
I believe the prosecutors seek to criminalize the teens because adults in our culture can’t stand the thought of anyone under 18 being a sexual being.
Buffalo Man Busted for Unsecure Wifi →
This is in response to the article about the man in Buffalo, NY who was roughed up by the feds for child porn being downloaded over his unsecured home wifi connection. First, I totally believe in securing your wifi. I am also against child porn. However, I don’t believe that was any cause for the feds to break this guy’s door down and hold him and his wife at gunpoint. This is the...
I don’t usually rant about videos posted online, but this is the exception. I can understand a woman feeling uncomfortable with a transgendered man using the women’s bathroom, but that is no excuse to just go off and beat up on the guy/girl/person.
The two women beating up on the person behaved no better than animals, and the McDonald’s employees were actually cheering on...
Not Grateful for Service Return
Because as a paying customer, 24/7 unfettered net access is what I’m supposed to get in the first place. Outages and slowdowns are unacceptable and are simply signs of negligence on the part of the ISP.
Users need to get more outraged at these outages and demand that they be fixed instantly. Again, I say, if it were our water or our electricity, we wouldn’t be so complacent about...
Outages Unaccaptable
If a person’s water, electricity or phone went out, people would understand their rage. If their Net goes out, people tell them to endure it patiently. What’s the difference?
Online Gambling Crackdown and Personal...
OK, so the FBI conducted this huge crackdown on online gambling sites over the weekend.
The question is, why? Why do governments have such an aversion to citizens spending their money on something they enjoy? Yes, I know some people go overboard with gambling, go into debt and end up in prison or on welfare, but is that any reason to prohibit it for everyone?
My proposal would be to legalize...

Well, here I am. Last night my mother sent me home with dozens of meatballs, her special recipe, in her special sauce, in a plastic container covered in a plastic bag, with giant rubber bands criss-crossed on top. I told her she should simply have given it to Brinks to deliver. They are delicious,…
Sounds yummy.
My Philosophy
Christian, if Christian you be, remember that God called on those who have to strengthen the hand of those who have not. A society that’s divided between the very wealthy and very poor, with no middle class, will eventually collapse on itself.
Where there are few people, people are generally content to mind their own business. When there get to be too many people in too small an area,...
Flow Changes Suck
I can’t believe Flow for Facebook was changed to require users to be logged into the official app before we can log into Flow. It just defeats Flow’s entire purpose and feels rather like a betrayal. I might as well remove Flow and just use the official app.
I wonder if this change doesn’t stem from Flow’s creator’s meeting with Facebook last week. Perhaps Flow and...

App upgrade nightmare
Dear Makers of Said App:
When an update to your app is available, it is customary to make it available on the Market, not leave the user to scour the Web for an APK off some unknown site.

The Talented Mr. Pinchot
You want to know what real acting talent is? I’ll tell you. It’s when the actor becomes their character so completely, that you forget the actor altogether. No matter how much I might like an actor like say, Brad Pitt or Christian Bale, whenever I see them in their rolls, I always know it’s they. However, when Bronson Pinchot acts, he so completely becomes the character that I...
Norman Bates is Prince Charles?
Had an interesting dream which started off about Norman Bates, now married and with a family, but still highly unstable. Then Bates became Prince Charles and it was Harry and William talking about how they had to sometimes hide from their dad because he would grab a kitchen knife and go on a rampage.
How I love Handcent SMS
I just discovered Handcen’ts ability to split SMSes larger than 160 characters into two messages in its settings. Oh, how I love finding features I didn’t know were there in an app. Oh, thank you, Handcent people.

Children Under Lock and Key
I believe the desire of the Persimmon Place HOA to ban children from playing outside unsupervised is part of an overall movement over the past 40 years of our society to chase children, teens and now increasingly, 20-somethings out of the public sphere and keep them under lock and key. Curfews, cruising laws, loitering laws, truancy laws, etc. were all implemented to do this. Why adults are so...

Matterhorn is a spectacularly written book that was tossed to me when another audiobook narrator fell out, and that had to be done in a hurry. A normal audio session is 6 hours, but we did it in sessions of 14 hours. So gripping I couldn’t have cared less. It took author Karl Marlantes 30 years…
